Born in Dunn, NC, Link Wray claimed to have learned to play guitar at age eight from a traveling circus performer named Hambone. He went into the army, contracted tuberculosis, and lost a lung due to the disease. After the military, Wray formed a band called Link Wray and the Wraymen. He is most known for creating the power chord with his first hit, “Rumble.” Other popular songs include “Jack the Ripper” and “Rawhide.”
